About John Staunton

As a songwriter, John, who hails from Westport, likes to convey sentiment in his lyrics – the kind that makes you see how the song fits with your own life, and wills you to sing along with a chorus you feel was written especially for you and your rock.
John started his music career back in the late 1980s as frontman with a band called ‘The Clew Bay Drifters’. They later rebranded as Sound Affair and eventually became known as Cadillac. During the ’80s the band toured extensively in Ireland, north and south, the UK and Scotland.
In 1993, Cadillac released an album called ‘Dawn’, which was very well received and propelled John and the band to further success. In 1996, John pursued a solo career, singing in bars and lounges in Mayo, Galway and south Sligo. He released his debut album, ‘Starting Over’, his first solo recording in 2008. The album was very popular, and through considerable airplay, John gained a wider audience in Ireland, England and the US, which would later bolster his career stateside.
In 2010, the American dream beckoned from the vastness out west and lured John to the cold windy city of Chicago. These days he is the owner/operator of the Chieftain Irish Pub in southwest Chicago. This was an ideal base for him to establish a successful business, playing his trade out of the spotlight. In turn, it afforded him the freedom to travel and perform extensively in Boston, Nashville (whre he has done some recording), New York, San Francisco and Birmingham, Alabama.
‘You’re the Rock’ will be included on John’s new album.
Once seen, once heard, the catchy lyrics of ‘You’re the Rock’ will resonate with audiences everywhere, it has all the hallmarks of a truly successful country classic.

John has recently toured the East Coast and is looking forward to a successful West Coast tour. For booking infomation please call 708-629-5490 or email stauntonjohn@hotmail.com
